Filtration Area and Batch Capacity Range

Filtration Area and Batch Capacity Range

When operating standard batch equipment like plate and frame filters and disc filters, one of the parameters used to determine the size of this equipment is the surface area avaliable. Of course for these batch devices this is a static number that determines physically how big (and thus how costly) the device is. The Disposable Rotary Drum Filter operates continuously while processing the batch of material in question. Thus the surface area avaliable increases with time of operation. Thus a very small device, operating over a period of time, can supply a large amount of surface area avaliable for filtration.

The graph below shows this filter can supply a surface area of 50 sq. ft. to 275 sq. ft. depending on the time of operation.

Small unit size is the key to making this device successful. Initial work with this device shows that a with an inner drum 4.5" long and 3" in diameter can operate at a filtration rate of about 1-2 liter/min. This would make this size of the device reasonable for processing batches of less than 100 liters to over 700 liters in size. This would be an ideal size to support production requirements ranging from the lab to initial production for many products in a variety of industries
